Being a fangirl

Hola everyone.

Today I want to talk about a topic that really means a lot to me. And that possibly some of you can relate to. Which is being a fangirl or like I would say it, being completely obsessed with a band or a musician.

.

So, I recently talked my friend about this because I watched a three hour long live stream of Marin Garrix show at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). And you can probably already tell by now that I completely freaked out. It was 4 am and I was jumping around in front of my TV, smiling from one ear to the other with Peaches and Molly sleeping behind me on the couch. They probably thought I was completely crazy. And I sometimes caught myself thinking that too, but you know, who cares? I had such a blast and it was so freaking amazing.

.

And here comes the important part. Of course I had to tell my friend all about that and I sent her about 150 messages that night because I was so excited and I just had to share my excitement. We talked about it the next day and I had the feeling that I was annoying. And then she told me that she kind of stopped being a fangirl. And I was shocked. Because she was once obsessed with bands and music like me. But somehow that changed.

.

She said things like dreaming and living in a real world and so on. And then I started thinking. Because I am a huge fangirl, but I never thought that I lived in a fake, dreamy world. I mean, dreaming makes the world so much better, but that doesn’t mean that you forget about the real world.

.

Since starting to be a fangirl I’ve always been confronted with this typical idea that people had of fangirls and moreover of me because I was and am one. According to them, fangirls are young, dreamy girls that scream about everything a band or a musician does and want to marry them. They live in a fake world that they have to grow out of. Until then they are just some weird girls being obsessed over people they’ll never meet.

.

This idea might fit for 12 year old girls, maybe not even then. And I want to use this post to spread a new idea of what a fangirl truly is. Because I am a fangirl and I’m nothing of the above. I noticed that when I talked to my friend. And I wrote a list of my favorite bands and musicians:

  • Conor Maynard
  • Fall Out Boy
  • Two Door Cinema Club
  • Panic! At The Disco
  • The 1975
  • Twenty One Pilots
  • Martin Garrix
  • Ed Sheeran

.

Apart from Conor and Martijn, there are no guys out there I can fall in love with. Maybe Ed too, his voice is just too angelic. But the point I want to get to is that when I started being a fangirl I was this little crazy girl who dreamt about marrying some guy (okay, it was Justin, hey hey) but I grew up and I am still this crazy girl, but today I am crazy about the music. I still stalk the bands online. I still fly over to concerts in different countries. I still go to concerts wayyyy to early just to get a good view. I still scream when I see them. I still cry when the bands finally get on stage and I get to see them. I still have them as my lock screen on my phone, depending on which one I love most right now. I still buy the albums. And I still think about them all the time. They are my world. Always were, always will be.

.

So nothing changed. Except that I grew up. You know, whenever people notice how crazy you are about some certain bands or musicians, they look at you like you’ve just completely lost your mind. But that’s not how it is. I’m a fan. And I’m a girl. So I am a FAN-GIRL. I’m not 12, I don’t dream about stupid unreal scenarios and I’m not crazy. I just show how much I love music and the people who bring it into my life. And that’s it. That’s what being a fangirl nowadays means.

.

So, there you go. I know, this is kind of a rant about the general view of fangirls, but I just had to get it out there. Even my mum is a fangirl still and Coldplay, the band we flew over to Copenhagen just to see them, is the reason for this. And I hope I’ll once fly to concerts with my children when I’m older. And I really really really hope that my children will fall as hard in love with music as I did. Because it brought so much happiness into my life that I can’t even describe it. Seriously.

.

As this is a really important part of my life, I’d be really happy to receive some messages from you guys. So feel free to talk to me, I’m here. I really hope that you enjoyed this post, it really means a lot to me. And as always, thank you so much for reading. x

Awesome new music

Hola everyone.

The day has come. The time is here. Two Door Cinema Club AND Kings of Leon have both released their new albums after waiting for what felt like ages. And of course I need to talk about them. With you. Now.

.
You probably guessed it. And yes, I have indeed already bought both albums. And of course right when they got released, I just had to. And I can tell you, they are both breathtakingly amazing. But first things first, let’s go through album by album.

.
Gameshow by Two Door Cinema Club

If you are a fan of this band, you probably had to go through a tough time, waiting for them to release new music, missing them when they were on their break. And now they are FINALLY back. Thank god. The album itself is a masterpiece, but certainly not for the “old” TDCC fans. Because this album certainly is a change. Less guitars, more beats. Less drums, more syhntic sounds. The whole album feels like a ride back to disco music from the 80s or 90s. But it kind of really fits.

.
Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed at first but the more you listen to the songs, the more you get into them. And I can actually see them on stage, turning the disco songs into cool indie pop with their still so well beloved guitars.

.
Overall the album is a huge change, but a good one. There are songs that are more on the funky side but also some for people who would rather stick to the guitar indie pop, like their song Gameshow. I think that every single indie fan should reallyyyy give this album a listen, you won’t regret. And I can just tell you, I’ve been listening to the album every day since it came out and it makes me more and more excited for their upcoming tour and the day I’ll get to hear all the amazing new songs live.

.
In short:

  • Album overall: amazing new funky sound but definitely a change – in a good way of course
  • My favorite songs: Gameshow and Sucker (this one really gives you a cool Halloween spook vibe)

.

WALLS by Kings of Leon

Let’s be honest, KOL have always been an amazing band. But this album right there is a whole other thing. Like I said to my friend, the album is a revelation. Every single song is better than the other one, which just adds to its awesomeness.

.
Actually, I think that is album is also a huge change for this band. It has more of a indie and relaxed vibe to it. So it’s perfect it you just want to chill and listen to some really freaking awesome music. Personally, I like the change from rock to more indie, but I guess that some people might not. But hey, you can never satify everyone.

.
Overall, I think the album is really really amazing and also their best one so far. There are more upbeat songs and also some that are more laid back. But every single one is great and Caleb’s voice is the highlight, for real. So I can just highly recommend it to all of you.

.

In short:

  • The album overall: also a new sound but a really amazing one, full of awesome lyrics, beats and sounds
  • My favorite songs: Waste A Moment, All Around The World, Find Me

.

.

So guys, there you go. Two amazing albums, two great chances to here some new music and my overall opinion. Honestly, I love both bands with all of my heart and I can’t wait to hear and see them live again. And I can just recommend them to all of you. If any of you have already listened to the album or want to chat about anything else, I’m here. And until then, I hope you enjoyed this post and, as always, thanks for reading. x

Music of the month

Hola everyone.

I know it’s early for a music of the month list, but hey, there can never be enough lists about music, right? I have to say that my current taste in music and my favorite songs are especially influenced by all the new upcoming albums of some of my favorite bands. And of course they all thought “why not release some singles first and basically bless all the ears on this planet???”. Thanks guys.

.

Anyways, all this songs are freaking amazing and I love them and some have a special meaning to me and some are just a blessing. But all of them are perfect. Enjoy.

Reading Festival – Day 2

Hola everyone.

And helloooo again and welcome to the festival show. It’s time to talk about the second day of one of the best weekends of my life. My weekend at the Reading festival in England (day 1 – here).

.

Soooo, the day started with a short shopping trip with my mum, as there was a mall close to our hotel. But as you know, music matters the most so we quickly decided to get to the festival area and start our second day of pure awesomeness. Also because the surprise act had just gotten announced – You Me At Six. And hello, of course you have to see the surprise act, which we did, luckily. Although it were just a few minutes, I’m glad that we got to hear them. And yes, they were amazing.

.

After that we had a little time because the next band on our list was going on stage in an hour or so. So we walked around and then sat down next to the tent stage and listened to Sigma. And also we watched the people there – you wouldn’t believe how crazy the people dress there, it’s so weird and cool at the same time. And funny, of course. After getting some dance beats, we walked over to the Introducing Stage and listened to a really really awesome band called High Tyde. They actually are from Brighton and have that typical english indie pop rock sound, which I loooooove. So yeah, I really enjoyed this one.

.

Following that we walked back to the tent and waited for the amazing Jack Garratt to come on stage. I already knew him before the festival and oh my, I didn’t know that he would be THAT good. Like, he plays guitar, keys, djs and sings, all at the same time. How crazy is that? I was so impressed. And besides that, I loved how you could see how he enjoyed the show, I think that’s the little piece that perfects a concert. Seeing that the act enjoys it too and really loves to be on stage.

.

Then it was already time to head to the main stage to watch Imagine Dragons. Who doesn’t know them and their songs. In my country, they are a typical radio band, but holy moly, I was nearly shocked how much I enjoyed their set. I never thought that I’d enjoy their music THAT much. But for real, they are breathtaking live. And their lead singer Dan is just too cool. And he looked so nice and he was nice, actually. Telling us how much he loves to be here. And yes, I cried. It was just so emotional and I was so overwhelmed by the music and the people and the fact that I was for real watching an amazing band at a festival I had prayed to attend for like half a year. It was just too much. I love my mum so much for flying to this festival with me. Seriously.

.

Oh and then mums highlight got on stage, the headliner of this day, Red Hot Chili Peppers. That’s a band mum connects to her youth, so it meant really much for her. I only stayed for 20 minutes, because I wanted to see Two Door Cinema Club, but my mum told me that they were amazing and I’m really really happy for her.

.

The last band we saw that day were, as already mentioned, Two Door Cinema Club. I ran to the stage to get a great spot, which I luckily did, and I couldn’t wait to see them. Some of you may know why, but I’ll tell you anyway. They are the band everything started with.  They were my first real concert, my first band shirt and the start of my taste in music, which I love, for real. So yeah, it REALLY meant a lot to see them again after three long years. As you can probably all guess by now they were breathtaking. I loved every single second of it and never wanted them to stop. And again, I just had to cry. Another perfect end of another perfect day.

.

So yeah, this was day 2 of my perfect weekend at Reading festival. Stay tuned for day 3 tomorrow. I really hope that you enjoyed this post and, as always, thanks for reading. x
