And welcome back to my blog and another Friday. A very special one, to be exact, because, after a way too long time, the New Music Friday is back again. FINALLY. So, you know the drill – I’m gonna tell you all about my favourite new songs that have recently come out or that I’ve recently discovered and your job is to sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Here we go.
.
Simmer / Leave It Alone – Hayley Williams
Well, if it isn’t my female singer? I know, this sounds every undramatic, but the excitement I feel surrounding just the fact that Hayley is back with new music can’t really be put into words. I know, it’s still not like Paramore is back – although they haven’t broken up, everyone calm down again – but I’m so happy to hear her voice again. Also, I mean, the two new songs are freaking amazing. And it’s not even just the music, but the whole story surrounding it as well and the videos. Absolutely magical.
.
.
.
Heavy Hearted – The Jungle Giants
It’s been quite some time since these Australian lads and girl (their badass guitarist) have blessed my and our all ears with new music, but a few days ago I finally stumbled across their new tracks and since then I haven’t been able to stop listening to this absolutely addictive dance hit. It’s literally SO good, holy moly. You definitely need to give this band a listen, if you haven’t so far. You won’t regret it, I swear.
.
.
Fine Line – Harry Styles
I know what you’re thinking right now. What is a Harry Styles song doing on this list and on this blog? And I totally understand your confusion, because I usually really don’t listen to Harry at all and Ed is as far as I get in listening to pop in general, usually. But here we are. And I’m not going to lie, Fine Line is a fantastic track and I’m more than happy to share it with you. Actually, I think his whole album is very share-worthy (and a definite improvement from the first one) and if you haven’t given it a try yet, you really should.
.
.
Beautiful Faces – Declan McKenna
It can’t get any newer than this. It’s definitely no surprise or news that I like to include any of Declan’s new stuff in my lists and that I am head over heels in love with it, so, here he is, again. And wow wow, what a great song. It’s the first single of his upcoming album “Zeros”, that will be released on the 15th of May, and, not to be dramatic or anything, but I really can’t wait for this album. And his tour. It’s going to be unbelievable.
.
.
Used To Love – Martin Garrix featuring Dean Lewis
Don’t even act surprised – of course I had to include Marty in this list. And it totally deserves the spot, because the song is freaking amazing. From Dean Lewis’ beautiful voice to the magical strings in the background and the addictive drop – dance music royalty, I tell you. But it’s Marty, so who was expecting anything else?
Ps: If any of you get the chance, I highly recommend watching Marty’s diary series on YT, which also includes the making of this song (clip down below). The work behind the track is freaking incredible.
.
.
.
Big Pot Of Hummus / It’s Been A Year – Tom Rosenthal
And last but not least, here’s the guy that always closes New Music Friday – Tom. And for a reason, because Tom is Tom and that means heavenly music is on its way. While the one song puts the biggest smile on my face, the other one made me instantly tear up. And that’s the magic behind Tom’s music. It never lacks emotions and it never fails to make me emotional, in whichever way. And that’s why I will never stop being addicted to his music and loving it to pieces.
.
.
.
And with that, we’ve already reached the end of today’s New Music Friday. I hope you all enjoyed or enjoy all the clips and songs I shared with you today, but as always, please don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts and comments down below. And, of course, I wish you all a nice weekend and thanks for reading. x
And welcome back to my blog. And another Friday. A “New Music Friday”, actually, which I haven’t been able to say for such a long time. God, I feel like it’s been forever since the last one. And I checked. It was in July. Can you believe that? In freaking July. That’s literally ages ago. But now we’re finally back and back for good, because I really can’t wait to share all of this amazing new music with you guys. I’ve literally been obsessed with music lately, I feel like I’ve been listening to the same 20 songs for the past two months, which could actually be pretty accurate, to be honest. Obviously, that means I’ll share exactly those songs with you. And just as I love them, I hope you will do. So, grab your headphones or speakers (every music lover its own) , sit back and enjoy the ride.
.
Just Like a Movie – Wallows
When I first heard this song, I literally couldn’t believe my ears. Not just because this song is freaking stunning and I’m deeply in love with this band, but because it did exactly to me what a good song should do – it made me love music. In general. This song proves why music is a gift from heaven and one of the most beautiful things on earth. It’s something so incredible, I don’t think anything else could make me feel so many things at once. What a masterpiece. Wallows, thanks so much for this one, guys. Just wow.
.
.
What Could Be as Lonely as Love / Worship – Amber Run
Well well well. Where should I begin? Amber Run, this freaking fantastic band, has been on my radar for quite some time now and their recently released album “Philophobia” has been one of my most anticipated LPs of this whole year. And damn, they certainly did not let me down. This album, as a whole, is so damn good, there isn’t one song that I wouldn’t say is amazing. This is also the reason why it was so hard to chose the songs to share with you, as I’d have actually preferred to just throw the whole album at you. But as this is a new music list, I did my best and chose the two songs that I’ve been loving the most.
“What Could Be as Lonely as Love” is plainly the one song that gets me going the most, it’s such a bop. But once you listen to the lyrics, you kinda notice that it’s a sad one. But still a bop. And “Worship”, wow, that’s just a heartbreak on a plate. I don’t know who hurt Joe, the lead-singer, this much, but I’d really love to give him a song every time I listen to the song. He manages to put so much pain and sincerity into his voice, I actually teared up while listening to it the first time. It’s this good. Also, please go and listen to the whole album. Highly recommend it, with my whole heart.
.
.
.
Aftertaste – The Academic
It’s no secret that I’ve been a fan of these guys for a few years now and I’m just always so excited whenever they put out a new song. They never let me down. And this phenomenal song right here proves that once again. I really can’t wait to see them live again in a few days here in London, it’s going to be absolutely amazing, I can already tell.
.
.
Ice Cream Sundae – Inhaler
Here we finally have the song, the only one, that I got on tape when I saw this awesome band live for the first time back in May at the Great Escape Festival. I might have to add that I literally had no idea who they were back then, but I do now and I’m honestly so happy my mum and I stayed for their gig or I would never know them, which would be an absolute shame. They are just way too fantastic and this song is way too fun to miss out on. And for those of you who are wondering and don’t know them – yes, this is Elijah Hewson, the son of Bono from U2. Yes, really. So, watch out for these guys, because they’re here to stay, trust me.
.
.
British Bombs – Declan McKenna
Guys, do you know this feeling when you’re going through your music recommendations and suddenly this one artist, that you’ve been listening to for such a long time but have kinda forgotten about, suddenly pops up on your list with an incredible new song and when you listen to it you fall in love with the artist all over again because it’s just so good? Yes? Good, me too, because that’s exactly what happened with Declan and this “bomb” (sorry, I had to) of a song. It’s so damn good, I don’t even know how I could actually forget about him. I’ve got no excuses, shame on me. But thank god I found him again. The song is so so so damn good. Also, when you’re listening to it, go and take a look at the lyrics. Trust me, you want to know what this song is all about. Declan makes music for politically frustrated indie kids, according to a Youtube comment, so you can probably tell why it’s such an important song and why he’s such an important artist.
.
.
Eat, Sleep Wake (Nothing But You) – Bombay Bicycle Club
As I am this typing this, I can’t believe my own eyes, but, guys, Bombay Bicycle Club are back together and back in business and I’m so excited, I can’t even put it into words. I think we all have this one band that we found out about too late or that we were born at the wrong time for. Until a few weeks ago, Bombay was that one band for me. I found them when they had already broken up and I always told myself and everyone else that they were the one band I wish I could’ve seen live, but will never get the chance to. But now these guys actually decided to not only reunite, but also to release new music, a new album and go on tour. And I’ll be seeing them live next February. How is this real life? Oh my god. And could this song right here be any better? I don’t think so.
.
.
Insomniac – Dreamers
I recently stumbled over this song on YouTube and immediately was interested, mainly because of the title. Insomniac. That’s something people could call me. Because I’m simply always awake at night. Not that I can’t sleep, I’d just rather be awake at night. But yeah, that’s kinda how I found this song and I’m so happy I did. I can already see myself listening to it while walking back home from work at night. Such a perfect late night song.
.
.
BREAKFAST / creature – half•alive
Where should I start? In short – this band is freaking awesome and their album is a masterpiece and definitely one of the most exciting musical experiences when being listened to with headphones. It’s just so damn good. They play with so many different techniques, whether it’s with genres, synths or instruments. It’s a creative rollercoaster and definitely worth every listen. As with Amber Run’s album, it was incredibly difficult for me to chose favourites, so I just took the two songs I’ve been listening to the most the past months. Where “BREAKFAST” is quiet, emotional and gentle and could remind some of Bon Iver, “creature” is intense, harmonic and full. Both couldn’t be any more different and any more perfect.
.
.
.
Was It Something I Said – MyKey
Guys, you’ll probably never believe my story of how I found this song and this artist. Do you guys know the YT channel Jubilee? It’s a really really fantastic channel where they sometimes to this kind of speed dating thingy and this one video was with musicians, where they had to play songs. And this guy, Mikey, right here was part of that video and immediately grabbed my interest because of his angelic voice. And, well, here we are now. Obviously I had to search for him online and quickly found his channel, thanks to other indie fans just like me. And god, what a great song this is. Jubilee, thanks so much for that video. I owe you one.
.
.
Boogie Juice – HALFNOISE
And last but not least, here we have the newest banger from the amazingness that is HALFNOISE. If you’re ever on a walk in the city and wanna get in the perfect, chill but still upbeat, groovy mood, trust me, this is the one song to listen to. It’s practically perfect for that. It always gets me in the best mood, no joke. And besides that, it’s just such a fun song to listen to. And this band deserves far more recognition and attention than what they’re currently getting. What a breathtakingly cool band. Damn. Also, they just released their new album, so definitely make sure to check that out.
.
.
And with that, we’ve reached the end of this list of awesomeness and this “New Music Friday”. I sincerely hope you had or have fun listening to all of these phenomenal songs and love them just as much as me. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions, so please don’t hesitate to leave them down below. Besides that, I hope you’re all doing good and wish you a great weekend. And, of course, thanks so much for reading. x
Okay, so, today I thought I’d start off this month in the best way possible and give the music playlist a little update and present you guys some of the songs I’ve been loving the most the past few weeks.
.
But first things first – let’s talk about my interview with BIMM. I have to say, the moment I ended the call, I thought it was all over. I mean, I immediately called a friend of mine to chat about it and basically squeal into her ears, but after that, I kind of had the feeling that I hadn’t done well enough to secure my spot at the university. Which would actually break my heart, but let’s not think about that and stay as positive as we can.
.
Anyway, overall I think the interview went pretty well, especially as the nice woman I talked to said that she thought that I was perfect for the course and that she would recommend me for it and send that to the office of the university. Which is like THE THING I wanted to hear. I mean, being told that you are perfect for a course you want to do so so so so bad is like birthday and christmas altogether. I was soooo happy. But I mean, of course I could have done much better. You can’t imagine how nervous I was, goodness. And I’m pretty sure that if I would have had just a little bit more time to think about my answers, I could’ve come up with better ones. But I guess that’s what we all think after important meetings or interviews. Now I can just wait and hope for the best – which is a place at the uni, of course. God, I want this so bad. Please let me be able to do this degree, please please please.
.
So, that was my interview. I will of course keep you updated – maybe I’ll email the university and ask them how long it will take them to make a decision, because on the website I applied through it says that they have time until the 8th of May and if I seriously have to wait that long, I’ll basically freak out. I’m literally the most impatient person ever, especially when it comes to such important things like a freaking uni application. Oh my god.
.
But okay, there’s that. Now, let’s move on to the most important part of this post, the music playlist update. As you know, I basically live off Spotify, I have no idea what I’d do without it. And I just listen to music, day after day after day. Especially now as I am on my break and have more time available to really enjoy and appreciate all the good music out there. As you all know, I am more the indie-kind-of-person, but I am pretty much open to anything. So, without further ado, here are some songs I love and which I’d highly recommend to you as well. Please enjoy.
.
Boys That Sing – Viola Beach
Whenever I hear the name Viola Beach, I get this sad feeling in my stomach. It’s weird to listen to music from someone who doesn’t live anymore, isn’t it? I know that they could’ve become a big thing, but they already are for me. I just love their music, they were so talented, which this song perfectly shows. The beat is freaking amazing. I hope by sharing this with you guys I can pay tribute to them.
.
.
Dancing on Quicksand / Daft Pretty Boy – Bad Suns
This is a band I’ve somehow always had in my Spotify playlist, but never really knew who they were and what other songs they had. That changed when I just let Spotify do it’s thing two weeks ago and present me any song I would presumably like. And there it was, this amazing band with its amazing songs. And I can’t even help it, one song isn’t enough. So, here are two of my faves.
.
.
.
Bishops Knife Trick – Fall Out Boy
This is my favorite song of the boys newest album “MANIA” and I have to say, it’s freaking fantastic. I just love everything about it. Patricks voice, the beat, the guitars, everything. I just love it. Thank god for this song, this awesome album and this band. Also, I can’t wait to see them in London next month. I’m already so excited, oh my god.
.
.
To The Sea – Seafret ft. Rosie Carney
As always, there can’t be a playlist without a little slow, romantic song, so here it is. You all probably know Seafret, they are a pretty popular band for songs we all know and mostly hear in movies, but never know who they are from. Well, now you do. And this wonderful piece here has to be my personal favorite.
.
.
Number 13 – Nothing But Thieves
This song is kind of a stable in any of my playlists, especially after this breathtaking concert on Thursday. I can’t even begin to tell you how exciting it is to sing the Whoop in the song live, together with the band, with Conor. Definitely something I’ll never forget. And I already miss them so much. Also, this song is basically a banger, live and as a studio version.
.
.
Piece By Piece – The Hunna
This is a band I know I’ve told you guys about quite a few times by now, but I’m just so intrigued by their music, I just have to share it with you over and over again. Recently I came across this song and I totally fell for it again and yeah, please do have a listen. Also, I am seeing this incredible band live in less than two weeks and I just can’t freaking wait.
.
.
Misery Business – Paramore
And last but not least, I just had to include this awesome piece of music by the marvelous Paramore, because I’ve been completely in love with their music for the last months and this song right here is a classic, I can’t believe it’s already over ten years old. How crazy is that? That’s music history right there. Whenever I need a push, I listen to this song, sing a little, scream a little, do a little air drumming and then I am happy again.
.
.
So yeah guys, there you go. Those are a few of my favorite songs at the moment and I’m more than happy that I get to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. And please don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts down below. And as always, I hope you’re all doing good, I wish you an amazing week and thanks for reading. x
Another beginning of the month, another music list, right? And as it’s just the beginning of November, I thought we’d start this one off together with some amazing music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
.
For this month – and this won’t come as a surprise – my music is pretty heavy on the EDM side right now, due to Martijns show and my longing to relive the show over and over again. But of course there’s something for everyone on there – at least I hope so. So, let’s get right to it, shall we?
.
Area 21 – Girls
The EDM fans among you will probably know this – Area 21 may not sound like Martijn, but it actually is Martijn together with the singer Maejor. And I don’t know about you but I’m literally addicted to this side of him, no joke. I usually don’t listen to this kind of music, but I could bury myself in this. And don’t even get me started on how amazing this is live. Holy moly.
.
Saint Raymond – Nightcrawling
He is back. FINALLY. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am that Callum is finally back with awesome new music. And I’m still so thankful to Ed for taking Callum on tour with him and introducing me to him in 2014. Thank god.
.
Hippo Campus – Monsoon / Tuesday
I found this band through another Spotify list and I’m so happy that I did. Just another reason for me for being so deeply in love with Spotify. And this band, oh my god. And this song. I have to say, when I found this song as a live version, I nearly fell off my chair. Seriously. Like, how is it possible to sound this good live? And there is that part when the upbeat part starts and it always feels like a spark of light lit up in my soul. I love it so much. Goosebumps guaranteed, every single time.
.
And as one song is far too less for this amazing band, I have of course got another song of theirs to show you. This one is called Tuesday and it’s literally such a calming song. I can’t really tell why, but it just is. And it’s literally the most perfect song to listen to while cooking. Actually all of their songs make the most perfect cooking playlist.
.
The 1975 – Milk
Yes, that really is the title. I really have no idea why, but somehow The 1975 thought they’d just upload this song again, as it is actually pretty old. But that doesn’t make it any less amazing. And that’s how I found it again. I especially love the guitar in this one. And personally I’d say it’s one of their best songs ever.
.
Brooks & Grx – Boomerang
And another EDM track – what a surprise. And again Martijn, of course. Yes, he has more than one side projects, here under the name of Grx. I can just say that when I heard this live I freaked out completely and since then I’ve been listening to it every single day and am falling for it more and more. The drop is freaking amazing. What an awesome piece of music.
.
BØRNS – 10.000 Emerald Pools
Some of you may know this song from the movie “The Space Between Us” – one of my favorite movies ever, just to mention it. To be honest, the first time I heard the song I thought that Børns was a woman. Really. But the fact that he’s a men doesn’t change the awesomeness of the song. I really really really love it and I think it’s truly a one of a kind song.
.
Zuli – follow you
Another song I found through Spotify. Thanks Spotify. It’s the kind of song that perfectly describes my taste in music. Especially the end of it and the guitar part. What can I say? It’s just a great song that puts you instantly in a good mood.
.
Tom Rosenthal – Pingu in the Igloo
What other good way to end this list is there then to end it on another amazing piece by Tom Rosenthal. I’ve already introduced my love for this guy and his music to you, so of course I had to include him here too. It’s the perfectly calm song, for a nice evening on the couch, preferably with tea and a comfy blanket.
So there guys, there you go. Here’s a small selection of the songs and music I’ve been listening to the past weeks. I hope you enjoy it. As always, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below. I’m really curious whether you know or like the songs or not. Oh, and yes, that is indeed Martijn in the cover picture. And, yeah, until then I wish you all an amazing weekend and, as always, thanks for reading. x
This blog post is again dedicated to music, but this time it’s about special music. About special songs, that we probably all know to well. Either from our childhood, from movies we watched and just from pure life. Yep, it’s time to talk about the most epic old school songs (most of them are probably not even that old, but who cares). And again, here are some of my favorites:
Heroes – David Bowie (it always reminds me of the movie “Perks of being a wallflower”)
Fire – Kasabian (saw it live last year at the Sziget festival – the crowd went totally crazy)
Someday – The Strokes (it just makes me feel so happy and full of life)
Mr. Brightside – The Killers (to be honest, who doesn’t like that song?)
Wonderwall – Oasis (an anthem right there)
Teenage Dirtbag – Wheatus (One Direction totally rocked that cover)
Where is my mind – Pixies (it just makes you feel supercool; a song perfect for an dramatic ending scene on a movie)
Uprising – Muse (basically the only song by music I actually listen to)
This love – Maroon 5 (the moment I first heard the song was the moment I fell in love with band)
Always where I need to be – The Kooks (a totally addicting song)
What Ever Happened – The Strokes (again a really amazing song by The Strokes)
Sweet Diposition – The Temper Trap (that’s literally the perfect song to listen to in the car at night)
September – Earth, Wind & Fire (the perfect song to get you into the party mode)
I Write Sins Not Tragedies – Panic! At The Disco (that band always ruled; my favorite line is “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door?”)
Dance, Dance – Fall Out Boy (one of the best alternative rock bands out there, ever single song is breathtakingly good)
The Funeral – Band of Horses (the first song lines I learned on my guitar; always reminds me of How I met your mother)
Sooo, I guess that’s it. Those are my favorite “old school” songs, although most of them weren’t even produced before 2005, but hey. They kinda gives me that special vintage feeling and brings me back to times when that kind of music played on the radio and I was a lot younger.
Hope you like the list and I would also love to hear about some of your favorites, I’m always open to new music. Thanks for reading. x
