What uni taught me (so far)

Hola everyone.

As you all probably all know, I’m currently in my second semester of university – I study journalism and communication studies. I know, two semesters aren’t that much, but they’re enough to show me what the university life is like. And university already taught me some things. So I thought why not share this special lesson with you. Let’s go.

.

  • most of the teachers couldn’t care less about your attendance
  • you will have to study A LOT more
  • don’t start revising two days before the exam, bad idea, seriously
  • every exam will probably seem like finals
  • there are many nice people walking around on this beautiful planet
  • someday you just won’t feel like going to a lecture, that’s okay (still go most of the time though, please)
  • you will meet a lot of new, interesting people and become friends with some of them
  • this is the perfect time to LIVE
  • being late is better than not going at all
  • also, there a lot of really strange people walking around on this kinda weird planet
  • water and food are essential (for some, coffee too)
  • sleep is a precious good
  • anthropology students just love asking questions and discussing things
  • exam week means hell week
  • you’ll notice that there are actually man people out there who think the same way as you
  • sometimes the teachers lie about what is important and what isn’t
  • deadlines are serious, selfish, strict and just cold-hearted
  • the more semesters, the harder it gets
  • do your homework guys
  • appreciate the time, party, meet friends, stay as happy as you can and enjoy the ride

.

There it is. My lesson that university taught me so far. I have today, I always dreamed about going to college and imagined it being like in the american movies. But it’s not really like that, at least not here. But that’s okay, because I still love it and loved it from the first second on. At the beginning it was a little bit weird and hard, I was lonely, didn’t have friends, that I saw and talked to every day, but it got better. Today I look forward to the lectures, to seeing my friends, to visit my favorite café or go shopping between lectures, when I have time. You could say that I’ve finally settled and more than happy about that. I think this time is really important, it’s the phase between being a teenager and an adult, so perch for making as many experiences and fulfilling as many dreams as possible.  The time is now, we just have to use it.

.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if any of you go to university too and want to chat, I’m here. And until then, as always, thanks for reading. x

My traveling obsession

Hola everyone.

I’m in love with traveling. Okay, I’m completely obsessed with it. If I could, I would travel to another city every week, seriously. And thanks to my parents I can fulfill that obsession at some degree. And that degree stands for traveling to a different country at least 5 times a year. Really. And yeah, I know. I’m lucky. Really really REALLY lucky that I don’t even know how to thank my parents enough.

.

Sooo, as we travel so much every year, I thought why not do that one thing I totally love. Exactly, make a list. And of course I keep a list for all the countries I’ve been to, so why not just post this list here? Here we go.

.

  • USA (of course; New York is a must)
  • United Kingdom (if I could chose to live in a city, it would be London, seriously)
  • Ireland (I love Dublin, although the rain kind of ruined the school trip)
  • Germany (Berlin is seriously one of the hippest cities ever)
  • Switzerland (my mum and me stayed there for a few hours at the airport on our way to London; still enjoyed it though, the language is just too funny)
  • Thailand (I think the favorite place to travel to for my parents, especially my mum; although I’m not a fan of wellness holidays, I can’t deny that I love it)
  • Turkey (I can’t tell you how many times we’ve already been there… too many)
  • Spain (I love Barcelona, it’s like London, but only the warm, southern version)
  • Italy (you already know everything about Milan and Italian food is the best, so what can I say? I just love it)
  • Slovakia (one of those countries we travel to for a few days when we want to chill)
  • Egypt (it’s like Turkey)
  • Croatia (a really beautiful country and perfect for a chill-out weekend trip)
  • Slovenia (I think we drove there for a wedding, I’m not sure though)
  • Tunisia (it was one of the first holidays of my life, so I can’t really remember how it was; I’m sure it was beautiful)
  • Russia (again another short stay at the airport; still pretty cool)
  • Czech Republic (I’m not sure why we went there, seriously no idea, sorry)
  • Cyprus (a really cool country and the reason I found Conor because I got to watch MTV for the first time, so thanks Cyprus)
  • France (the country has Disneyland, there’s nothing else to say, it just wins)
  • United Arab Emirates (we’ve been to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai and I have to say that Dubai is slightly cooler because it has three big shopping malls and every single one has a Forever 21, so there’s no other end than Dubai winning)

So, as you can see, traveling is a huge aspect of my life and I couldn’t be happier about it. Seriously. I just love seeing other places, stepping out of the plane in a completely different country and meeting different people and cultures. It’s just so fascinating. And I’m glad that my parents have the same opinion as me. More than glad, actually.

.

Oh and if you want to know, this year my parents or me or all together are planning on traveling to England, Portugal and Copenhangen. And that’s just the plan until August, so noone really knows what will happen after that (probably another trip… or two…).

.

So yeah, that’s my (and my parents) traveling obsession. And I love it. Completely. If any of you travel as much as me or love it as much as me and want to talk about that or anything else, I’m here. And until then I hope you enjoyed this post and, as always, thanks for reading. x

Welcome Spring

Hola everyone.

Spring is cooooming. FINALLY. And as you can probably guess by now, I thought why not dedicate a post to this beautiful season. So I literally just stepped out into our garden at home and started taking pictures. It was amazing. To see how all the nature around me starts to become alive again and all the bees and other animals come out again and it just makes everything so much nicer when the whole world is so colorful and full of life.

.

Of course, Peaches and Molly assisted me with the whole photography process, especially Peaches, who followed me literally everywhere (I love her so much for that). So yeah, I hope you like the pictures and are as happy as me about the fact that spring is finally here. If any of you want to talk, I’m here, and until then, as always, thanks for reading. x

Me and fashion

Hola everyone.

So, a few days ago I watched a documentary about the recent fashion industry with all the fashion blogger involved and all the changes happening, like fast fashion. And it was reallyyyyy interesting.

.

I mean, I love fashion, but to be honest, that was different when I was younger. It all started when I got in touch with the social media, especially tumblr. It changed my life and the way I looked at and thought about fashion. So yeah, this post is about the relationship I have with fashion.

.

I think the first time I thought it would be cool to work in the fashion industry and for a fashion magazine was when I got to see “The Devil Wears Prada” for the first time. I loved everything about it. The fashion, the outfits, the story, the characters and the way it gives the world an insight of this fascinating industry. I immediately sympathized with Andy and the fact that she wants to be a journalist. The only difference between us is that she didn’t have the goal to work for a fashion magazine and I do completely now.

.

For me, fashion couldn’t be more fascinating. I love the way you can show who you are or who you want to be by wearing certain clothes and putting together certain outfits. When I was younger I never cared about my looks. I mean, I looked at outfits of others and didn’t want to look like I just stepped out of bed, but I didn’t really care. But now I do. Not in the “oh my god, I need to wear 4 layers of makeup and someone tell me where the next mirror is NOW” way, but I still check if my outfit works. As I already said, I think the social media brought me and fashion together. I started looking up outfits on tumblr and twitter, checked my favourite stores and slowly built up my own personal style, which I’m really proud of now.

.

Also, you have to know, and I think I already talked about this in some other post, that I live in the middle of nowhere where nearly everyone is wearing the same styles of clothes because all the new styles get here reallyyyyy late. So we just wear the same, the clothes we see all the other people wearing and the ones we feel safe in. And that’s something that gets really boring after some time and started bothering me the more I got into this whole fashion world. I didn’t want to look like everyone else in my school, so I just stopped that and bought the clothes I dreamed about while being on holiday in fashion metropolis like New York or London. And I wore them with pride. And slowly but surely I noticed that people started looking at me.

.

True story – I was the first girl in my school to wear jeans that are ripped up at the knees. And I even ripped them up myself, because I saw people on the internet wearing jeans like that and also some guys of my favourite bands. So I just cut them up myself and went to school and you know what happened to that little trend. There were two reactions:

The first one was like “Hey ummmm, your jeans are ripped and destroyed, you may want to throw them away and buy new ones”. This one ended up with me telling them desperately that the jeans are meant to look that way.

The second one was “Hey Laura, cool jeans. Where did you get them from and did you rip them up yourself?”. This much better reaction led me to telling them that I did it all myself and grinning proudly at them and then turning around and hearing them whisper “I want jeans like her” quietly, not knowing that I could hear them.

.

It made me sooo happy to be some kind of trendsetter. And I was proud, like, seriously proud. And I liked the attention. Because I have always been the quiet girl you would never really notice in a crowd. But through my outfits and my style I can show my personality, which isn’t quiet at all, which you notice quite fast if you get to know me better.

.

Personally, I would say that I have some kind of rock-chic, band tshirt, ripped jeans, backpack and Doc Martens kind of style. At least when it’s cold outside. And when it’s warm, I turn into this festival-like butterfly wearing dresses, crop tops and skirts. And I love both phases and all the small ones inbetween.

.

Today, I love going shopping, at least in big cities and on holidays because I can be sure that I will always find something extraordinary. And to be honest, I think at the moment like 80 % of my whole wardrobe are from different countries. And the funny thing is that I always know where every single piece of clothing is from. Like for example, right now I’m wearing Converse sneakers from New York, next to me is my backpack from Madrid and so on. Everyday my outfit feels like a small trip around the world and I couldn’t be happier about it and more in love with fashion.

.

You may ask why I’m not a fashion blogger like thousand of other people out there if I’m so in love with fashion. I think it’s because I still wear cheap clothes and nothing that could be called designer ware. And most fashion bloggers show off their amazing designer pieces and I could never be able to afford that. I mean, my favourite store is Forever 21, so that should describe what I mean. But I’m more than happy with this blog and it has brought so much happiness into my life, so I’m not keen on changing anything.

.

Anyway, that’s my little story of fashion and me. I’m hoping to spend most of my years as an adult working with and for fashion, hopefully at a fashion magazine and I can tell you, I will do anything to turn this dream into reality. And until then, I’ll work on this dream and plan and enjoy the world of fashion as much as I can.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if any of you want to talk to me about fashion or anything else, I’m here. And until then, as always, thanks for reading. x

The 1975

Hola everyone.

Soooooo, it finally happened. I finally saw The 1975 again after 3 years and seriously, I couldn’t be happier. Really. I don’t even know what to say or where to start. I’m just sooo happy, I still have a bright smile on my lips and my voice still hasn’t recovered completely. That shows how amazing it was.

.

Anyway, I think it would be best to start with the history I share with this extremely special band. Three years ago I went to my first real concert, the Two Door Cinema Club concert I already told you about. The funny thing is that I didn’t know much about music at that point, my knowledge began and ended with Justin Bieber. So I had no idea who the support acts of TDCC were. And guess what? It was The 1975. And even better, when I first heard their music, I didn’t like it all. Like for real. I thought that the second support act, Dog Is Dead, was better. And when the concert was over, the two bands got in the main area so that people could talk to them. And being the crazy girl not knowing anything in music, I just walked past Matty and went over to the other band to talk to them. How crazy is that? I mean, I could have taken a picture with the whole band, talked to Matty and whatelse. But nope, not with me.

.

Actually, I laugh about it now. The band I didn’t like three years ago is now one of my most favourite bands and the singer who I thought was REALLY weird because he was half naked and smoked on stage is now one of those guys I tell other people about that they have the most amazing voices ever. It’s just crazy. So crazy and unbelieveable.

.

Soooo, the concert. It was uuuuunbelieveable, really. First of all I need to say that I’ve never seen someone who is like Matty, seriously. He literally LIVES the music and his band. And he smokes and drinks wine out of a glass while singing, how crazy is that? And he acts like a model on the runway, doing one pose after another, with that typical model expression on his face. Besides that his voice is extraordinary amazing. I really love his voice. And they are all so good live, it’s breathtaking.

.

Thank god my friend Hannah and me got there early, especially Hannah who waited outside for over an hour. Now we had amazing places really close to the stage. The crowd went crazy when they finally got on stage and the beat of Love Me started playing. I felt like I was in heaven. But the most amazing moment was when I heard the music of Robbers and got goosebumps everywhere. I nearly started crying while screaming the lyrics of this song. And of course the last moment when they played Sex and everyone was going completely crazy and was screaming out the lyrics. It felt like we were in another world, our small world full of happiness, far too hot weather and amazing music. And oh my god, their stage was sooooooo beautiful. It was pure aesthetics. The colors and the lightening and everything, it was so amazing. Hannah and me were starstruck.

.

Overall I’m soooooo damn happy that I went to their concert and it couldn’t have been any better, really. I loved every single moment of it. And I can’t wait to see them again in summer when my mum and me will hopefully fly to England to go to Reading festival.

.

If any of you visited one of their concerts or love the band as much as me, I’d be happy to talk to you and exchange memories and fangirl moments. And until then, as always, thanks for reading. x

Reasons to be happy

Hola everyone.

As you know, I’m a happy person. I’m optimistic, always try to enjoy life as much as I can and focus on the good aspects and sides of something.

.

In the past few days I’ve been thinking about moods and depression a lot, probably because Will uploaded a video dedicated to that topic. But besides that, I had some great past days with a lot of happiness, also because of this very blog here and all the feedback I get. I know it’s probably not much compared to the amount it could be, but I’m grateful for everything. Every comment, like and so on. So thank you guys.

.

And also everything is going so well right now and I’m just really really happy so I thought why not make a list of all the reasons to be happy and the things that make me happy. It’s partly personal, but also for you guys out there. So please enjoy.
