Paris Haul

Hola everyone.

I know, it took quite a while to get here, but here it is, finally. My big shopping haul from Paris, as promised. Please enjoy.

.

You know, I love fashion. And going shopping. I know, what a typical girly thing. Blah blah blah. But seriously, it really is a lot of fun. I don’t even need to buy something to have fun. Because it’s not really about that, at least not for me. It’s more about the places I go to and the people accompanying me. And I love going shopping with my mum, we always have such a great time.

.

Anyways, although Paris is basically the city of fashion, I didn’t actually buy as many things as I thought I would. Probably because, and that’s no joke, I already have everything I want and could wish for. At least I do now, but we’ll get to that. As always, there was far much more on my list than just clothing. Plants, books, bags and so on. Those are usually the things I’m going for. So, let’s jump right into this haul.

.

Clothing and accessories

Okay, so clothing-wise, like I already mentioned, I wasn’t really feeling it. I mean, I was, but having planned to buy some Doc Martens, which aren’t really the cheapest pair of shoes, I actively stopped myself from buying a lot of other things.

.

Okay, that was the plan. Yey to the plan. But the theory is always easier than the practical part, right? So, exactly that happened to me. Mum and I walked into Zara, which was basically the coolest Zara I had ever stepped into, and then I saw it. This amazing, mind-glowingly dope ass jacket. Hanging there, just waiting for me to try it on. And then I looked at the price… 70 €. Great. Now what? Long story short, I just had to try it on. And the second I had it on, I didn’t want to take it off ever again. Did I ever mention that I have the best mum ever? Here’s another reason why. After I had walked around with the jacket for about 15 minutes, mum looked at me and said: “You know what, take it. I’m buying it for you.” I nearly freaked out. God, I was so happy. What an amazing mum, holy moly.

.

So yeah, I now have this incredible cool jacket hanging in my wardrobe. It’s made of black velvet and has this amazing, delicate embroidery all over it. I just love it so much. On the one side it’s so damn elegant, but when you wear it with black skinny jeans and a pair of Docs it suddenly turns into this rock chic and I love it so much.

.

And speaking of Docs. Yes, I got my second pair of Doc Martens. This time some short black ones. I actually had purposely waited for our trip to Paris to buy them there, because what’s cooler than a pair of Doc Martens? Exactly. A pair of Doc Martens from Paris. And yeah, I love them and I’m so happy that I get to wear them in the summer too as they aren’t as warming as my other pair.

.

And accessory-wise, I got two things. A supercute, little necklace in gold with the word Merci on it and a plain tote bag with Van Goghs painting “The Starry Night” on its front. I immediately fell in love with it the moment I saw it, seeing as I love the painting too. It’s just so beautiful. And I love the artsy aspect of it.

.

.

Books

Of course I had to get some new books. Of course. And I think I don’t even have to mention anymore why. So let’s get right to the titles.

  • The Romantics by Leah Konen
  • Truth Or Dare by Non Pratt

.

The Romantics is pretty much the book I’m most excited to read. After I have finally finished the Harry Potter series, I’m getting to the end of the fifth book right now. I got both books at this historical bookshop called Shakespeare and Company which I already mentioned in my post about our trip to Paris. I really really loved this shop. It’s super old and so quirky. And they actually stamp your book when you buy it, which is so cool.

.

.

Plants

Last but not least, of course I had to get some plants, especially as I had intentionally searched for interesting, cool plant shops in the city. We got the first plant, or how I call it our own little egg, from a shop called The Green Factory. They are specialized in manufacturing these amazing little and also quite big terrariums, which is so unique to me. So I just had to get one. And the second plant, the little cacti, is from a shop called “Les Succulents Cactus”, which, as the name already hints to, solely sells cacti and succulents. You can probably guess that I felt like I just stepped into heaven when we got there. And there were so many plants to chose from, the decision was really tough for me.

.

.

So yeah, there you go. Those are pretty much all the things I took home with me from Paris – apart from my tattoo, of course. I really, really, really loved my time in Paris with my mum and I’m already looking forward to traveling to Paris again in the future.

.

I hope you enjoyed this post and my haul and the pictures. I you have any questions or anything else, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below, I’d love to hear from you. And until then, I wish you all an amazing week, and, as always, thanks for reading. x

New Music Friday

Hola everyone.

Well, as it is Friday and the first day of autumn (yey), I thought I’d start this weekend and new season of with a quite chilled post. And what could be more chilled than music? So, welcome to another New Music Friday.

.

The past weeks I’ve been basically listening to what I’m usually listening to – indie music, some punk rock, some EDM to get me in the mood for the Amsterdam Dance Event next month and of course some nice, slow music à la Ed and many more. Oh and as the new Nothing But Thieves album just came out, I’ve of course been listening to this mind-blowing LP too. Pretty much nonstop. And like this, I’ve also found some amazing new music – some may not really be this new, but at least it was new to me. You could say that I love every single song on this list and I hope you do too. Please enjoy.

.

Banners – Firefly

I think Banners is still quite unknown and underrated and guys, this needs to change. Right now. Just listen to this. It’s literally perfect.

.

Ed Sheeran – Perfect

This is actually Ed’s new single and let me just say one thing – this song will be played at my marriage. That’s fixed already, there’s no arguing about that. I think ed wrote this song for his girlfriend Cherry and just imagine having written this song for you by your boyfriend. Holy moly.

.

Nothing But Thieves – pretty much everything

Guys, I know I’ve made an entire post about their new album, but please give those guys a listen, really. This video here is a livestream they did for NME and it features pretty much all of my favorite songs of the new album. Also it’s crazy to see how amazing they are live and how funny Conor, the lead singer, is. Such a dork, but so cute.

.

Martin Garrix – Pizza

Yes, that’s really the title of the song. He just loves Pizza. No joke. But besides the funny name, the song is amazing. Especially the classical instruments at the beginning and the end. I really can’t wait to hear this live next month.

.

Tom Rosenthal – Bob in the Rain and The Lizard of Hope

Some of you may Tom Rosenthal and his pretty dramatic, but so beautiful type of music. This song here has to be my favorite song of his. You could say that it’s a little bit depressing, but honestly, there’s no better music to listen to when it’s raining outside and your curled up with a cup of tea. Perfect for autumn.

.

Also, guys, I just found the coolest thing ever. Apparently Tom wrote and recorded a song about Melania Trump and it’s the funniest thing ever. Oh my god. Please check this out.

.

Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones

This is FOBs new song and, yes, I may be missing their old music, but this one is really really good. Besides the music video, which is pretty creepy and weird. What’s up with the Llamas anyway? And why does Pete have to be the victim?

.

Logic – 1-800-273-8255 (ft. Alessia Cara & Khalid)

This is pretty much one of the most important songs out there right now with one of the most important meanings. At least for me. Especially in combination with the video and guys, just listen to the lyrics. I love how it goes from “I don’t wanna be alive” to “I want you to be alive” and then ends on “I finally wanna be alive”. This development in one song. I mean, that’s just mind-blowing. I think it’s amazing that there are artists out there who shine a light on such important topics like suicide and life and hope and not giving up. It’s so damn important. And this song is such a masterpiece.

.

So, guys, there you go. I hope you like this small selection of songs I’ve been listening to the past weeks. And please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below, I’m really curious about your opinion. And until then I wish you all an amazing weekend and, as always, thanks for reading. x

Monet’s Water Lilies

Hola everyone.

As some of you may know, I love art. So freaking much. And in the past years I’ve become more of a fan of galleries, museums and art overall. So when mum and I planned on traveling to Paris and I prepared our to-do-list it was a must for me to put one museum on it – the Musée de l’Orangerie.

.

You might know one of the works presented there – Monet’s water lilies. Basically it’s one full floor, two round rooms covered in 8 huge paintings. All drawn by Claude Monet, of his waterlilies from his own garden in Giverny – which I visited two days before visiting the museum and seeing this amazing pieces of art myself. To be honest, it’s pretty crazy to see the garden and the plants and flowers in reality which inspired and basically represent this unbelievably awesome paintings. That was an incredible moment for me. Even more so when I finally walked into the this round rooms, covered these paintings. I was so speechless.

.

I think I could have spent the whole day in there, looking at every single aspect of the paintings, every single flower and every single brushstroke. I loved it so much. And as I enjoyed this experience so much, I thought I’d share it with you guys too. Especially as I think it’s pretty cool to compare both the pictures of the garden and the pictures of the paintings (here’s the link for this post: Monet’s garden). So, please enjoy this amazing art. I really hope you do. And please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below. And, as always, I wish you all an amazing week and thanks for reading. x

Tattoo art

Hola everyone.

Guys, I have something really really really extremely exciting to tell you. I don’t know if I already told you, but I just got a new tattoo two weeks ago. In Paris. How unbelievably crazy is that? I’m still so amazed, holy moly.

.

I think I mentioned in one of my last posts before we went on our trip to Paris that I was actually looking for a tattoo artist in Paris and that I had found one and asked her for an appointment (Carin Silver from the studio Les Maux Bleus). Well, the day before we left, the studio answered my enquiry and told me that she was unfortunately fully booked, but that they would text me if they would get a free spot for me and my mum. Yeah right. Like anybody would ever cancel an appointment for a tattoo. Of course.

.

So without any hopes at all mum and me flew to Paris and spent some wonderful days there. Honestly, I had actually quite forgotten about the whole tattoo thing – I was already thinking about writing another tattoo artist from Budapest as an alternative – when one night, mum and I were standing in front of the eiffel tower at exactly eleven o’clock in the night and everything changed. You know, at night something magical happens to the tower. At full hours it starts to sparkle like a huge christmas tree. It’s so beautiful, I can’t even describe it. Anyways, we were standing there, admiring the view and after the five minutes full of magic, we both looked down on my phone and saw that it was blinking. Blinking usually means that someone sent me either a text or a mail. So I picked it up and saw that it was a mail. From Carin, the tattoo artist. Saying that she had found a free spot for both my mum and myself. At the perfect date and the perfect time. On Saturday before our flight. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I just remember throwing my hand before my mouth in shock. I was speechless. I mean, I was excepting nothing and there it was, the perfect appointment.

.

The night before the appointment Carin mailed me again, showing me the design she had drawn for me. A beautiful, beautiful flower bouquet featuring the flowers I had chosen beforehand – a rose, forget me not flowers, a peach blossom and wildflowers. I looked at the design and I could have cried right there and then. It looked so mind-blowingly beautiful. And imagining this piece of art getting tattooed on my arm made me completely speechless.

.

So, on Saturday the time had finally come. Mum and I made our way to the studio and as soon as I stepped into the studio, I knew the whole thing was meant to be. First of all, the studio looked super cool. And to be greeted by the sound of tattoo machines… That was music to my ears. God, was I excited. My mum went first – she kind of “tuned up” her two rings on her arm with some beautiful, delicate flowers – and then it was finally my turn. I don’t know why, but I was so nervous. But in a good way, of course. As this was my third tattoo, I knew what was coming. I know many people say that they are afraid of the pain, but I think this kind of pain is different than to the, let’s say, usual one. Because you endure this pain but end up with having something beautiful afterwards. So the pain wasn’t a problem at all for me, although I have to say that this one hurt more than my two others.

.

I think the whole thing was finished in about half an hour or 45 minutes. As soon as I saw it, I was in love. I still look at my arm every few minutes and stare at it. It’s so goddamn beautiful. Thin, delicate, feminine and pretty much perfect. I love it. And I’m so so so happy that we actually got an appointment in Paris, with Carin. If you’re interested in her art, here’s the link to her Instagram. She’s specialized in fine line tattoos and flowers and so so so good at what she’s doing. No joke. I would be lying to myself if I said that I would have chosen someone else over her. I intentionally chose her for the tattoo, she’s the only artist I wanted to get this tattoo from. I still can’t believe that I seriously got the appointment.

.

Tomorrow the tattoo will be two weeks old and I’m still speechless due to the fact that I now have another piece of art on my arm. And yes, tattoos are true pieces of art. I love my both arms so much now, no joke. They are like my two canvases, waiting to be turned into art. So you could say that they are my project. And what a beautiful project they are. Now that the tattoo is halfway through to being fully healed and all the scabs are gone, I can finally fully see how it ended up and oh my god, it’s so perfect. Really. Guys, if any of you ever thought about getting a tattoo that is important to you, please go and get it. I mean, it’s your choice obviously, but if you have a nice idea and a meaning and a great artist, why not get it done? I’m the kind of ink-person, that gets a tattoo when it has a meaning, an important one. Because this way I have a lifelong guarantee that the tattoo will forever be important to me and that I will forever like it. And what else could you wish for? Oh and if you’re Paris and looking for a good artist, go and check out Carins site and ask her for an appointment. She’s a true talent, really.

.

Okay, I think I’ve talked enough about tattoos now. So, without further ado, here are the pictures of my new love, I hope you like them. Oh and please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below. I’m really curious about whether some of you guys have any tattoos or if you’re planning to get one and about what you think of tattoos overall. I’d be happy to hear from you. And until then, I wish you all an amazing weekend and hope that you enjoyed this post. And, as always, thanks for reading. x

Paris at night – a concept

Hola everyone.

And we’re back with the series. As already mentioned in my previous posts, Paris is quite unbelievable when it comes to it’s beauty. Because I just couldn’t stop taking pictures. Especially at night. Especially in black and white. I still can’t really tell if Paris is more beautiful at night or at daytime. The decision is too tough.

.

And as I took so many pictures, I just had to turn this into a whole post, dedicated to the beautiful, magnificent Paris at night in black and white. But I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did taking them. And please don’t hesitate to leave a comment. And as always, I wish you alp an amazing week and thanks for reading. x

Broken Machine

Hola everyone.

I know I said that I’d do some kind of series about my trip to Paris, but something really important happened today. So important that I just have to break in the series. Today is the day that Nothing But Thieves released their new album. You can probably guess it. I’m shook.

.

Nothing But Thieves – a band I’ve now known for over a year. A band I fell in love with the second I listened to their music. And a band I’ve been following ever since, especially after getting the chance to see them live last year at Reading and experiencing their amazing show. And now, after nearly two years or so, their new album called “Broken Machine” is finally out. And I can tell you, I’ve waited for quite a while for this and now that it’s here, it’s completely blowing me away.

.

During the last few weeks, they have actually already given the world bits and pieces of the new LP. A new single, another one, an acoustic version and then even two more songs. And they were all mind-blowing. But now that I’m able to listen to the album in full, it really feels like a complete piece. A piece of art. So, without further ado, here’s the track list and some bits of my opinion:

.

  1. I Was Just A Kid
    • I would say that this is seriously the perfect beginning of the album. It shows their way of combining good, old rock n’ roll with some new indie tunes and of course Conor Masons mind-blowing voice (he’s the lead singer). I actually froze while running up the stairs because I was so shocked while listening to it for the first time.
  2. Amsterdam
    • This was the first new song they released and for me the perfect representation for what they are capable of doing. It has the most amazing intro with a beat that really sticks to your memory. And then it gets louder and faster and better. It just pops.
  3. Sorry
    • I present you the second single and definitely my favorite song of the whole album. I was so blown away when I first listened to it, I actually couldn’t stop playing it for over a week. I’ve probably listened to it more than a hundred times. It’s so good, no joke. Also, there’s an acoustic version available, which sometimes – depends on the mood – is even better. I love it.
  4. Broken Machine
    • For me, this is the one song you would never expect to hear from this band, especially not the intro. It’s kind of weird, really mechanical (HA), and then turns into this rock song with Conor’s voice in the background. And the lyrics are amazing, no wonder it’s the title track.
  5. Live Like Animals
    • If I had to choose, I would actually say that this one is the one song I enjoy the least. I don’t really know why. It’s probably the guitar chorus. But apart from that part, the song is crazily good. I just adore Conor’s voice so much.
  6. Soda
    • This song is what you could call the ballade of the album. It’s really chilled compared to the other songs and really calming, despite the guitars in the background. And somehow the lyrics are kind of depressing (“I don’t wanna be myself”), but I think that just adds the special touch to the song.
  7. I’m Not Made By Design
    • This is the kind of song I can already imagine being the craziest when played live. The guitars are powerful, Conor is giving everything with his angelic voice and the beat is amazing. It’s the perfect getting-hyped-up song.
  8. Particles
    • Apart from Sorry, this is basically the one song to fall in love with. When I first listened to it right after midnight – of course I waited for the album to be released to listen to it right then and there – I couldn’t believe it. I don’t know about you, but for me this song is literally perfect. And let’s not forget Conor’s vocals and falsetto parts. You can really hear his classical vocal training, his voice is so strong. And moreover, on the deluxe version of the album, there’s a piano version of this song and it’s even better than the “normal” version, at least for me. And yes, I cried. Just listen to it, you’ll see. You’ll tear up too. God, Conor’s voice, it’s giving me goosebumps. I wish I could bury myself into this song. Seriously.
  9. Get Better
    • This is the perfect bounce-your-head-to-it song. It’s kind of upbeat, but also a little bit slow and chilled back. It’s a mix of both. And for me yet another song that perfectly reflects the kind of style of music they are heading to or living for right now.
  10. Hell, Yeah
    • Hell. I think this song is literally about hell – “it’s just a little bit warmer”, “it’s just like home”. Somehow quite funny to me as a lyrical piece, but not when you listen to it. Right at the beginning, there’s just Conor’s voice and an acoustic guitar and he sounds hurt. You can hear the hurt in his voice. So I strongly believe that there’s so much more to this song than hell, literally. Nonetheless, this one is amazing, but that’s not really a surprise, is it?
  11. Afterlife
    • This one here is the last song on the “normal” version of the album and with it’s title, it’s fits, really. It has this kind of Amsterdam vibe to it and it’s also a little bit more calming. And for me the best last song they could have chosen.

.

When you get the deluxe version of the album, there are four more songs waiting for you to listen to them – Reset Me, Number 13 and the acoustic version of Sorry and the piano version of Particles, which I’ve already mentioned. Reset Me is kind of a punch in the face after Afterlife. It’s rough, fast and loud and exciting. So exciting. And Number 13 is simply cool. It’s bouncy, pure old school rock full of amazing, rough vocals and great guitars and beats. And it combines like five types of music in one. It’s hard to describe, so I guess you just need to give it a listen to hear it yourself.

.

So, guys, there you go. That’s the new masterpiece called “Broken Machine” by Nothing But Thieves. And it really is a masterpiece. I’m so proud of this band and of what they achieved. They really grew together with their music and especially Conor gets better and better with every single new song, every single new show. It’s actually quite sad for me that they are little bit underrated and kind of still a secret in the music universe, but I’m sure that this will change dramatically after this release. Thank god they are going on tour this winter already and I’ve got tickets to see them. I would never be able to wait much longer for the moment I get to listen to the songs live. Because if Nothing But Thieves are anything, they are the kind of band that is even better live than on the studio versions. And that’s hard to manage, trust me.

.

So, yeah, if I can give you anything, it’s the advice to give this band a listen, seriously. You won’t regret it. But I guess you’ve already noticed that I’m really hyped for this band. God, I love them. And to end this post on something exciting, I’ll leave some videos for you to watch down below. Please enjoy. And I wish you all an amazing weekend and hope that you enjoyed this post. And please don’t hesitate to leave a comment, of course. And, as always, thanks for reading. x
