The Future

Hola everyone.

The future is a quite scary thing, isn’t it? The past few days and weeks I’ve actually been thinking about my future a lot. About my dreams and hopes. The plans I’ve been making for myself. And about what I want and don’t want.

.

I have to say, there are actually quite a lot questions marks floating above my head. Although I do have a plan. I mean, I love thinking about my future. Because I love dreaming and no dream has ever been to big for me, thanks to my mum who always told me that I could achieve anything. So here I am, dreaming of going to London after finishing my bachelor studies in two years to study fashion journalism. God, that’s such a big wish of mine. Live in my favorite city on this planet and get to study the coolest course ever. Holy moly.

.

But in the past few weeks, like I said, I have been thinking about that a lot. Whether I really want to study fashion journalism or just focus more on my love for music or somehow involve my love for photography. So it’s quite hard.

.

And on the other hand I always have to keep in my mind all the things and dreams and goals and wishes I’ve already fulfilled in my life. I wrote my own book, lived in Berlin and am now writing for a local magazine. So I am actually already a journalist. It all really blows my mind, it’s so crazy. And I’m so proud of that and thankful for everything.

.

As I had and still have to think a lot, I somehow managed to (maybe) find a good plan for myself. As I know it will be quite hard to get into the University of Arts and moreover live and study in London – thanks Brexit. And leave my family. But I will fight for it, more than ever before and try to stay strong. Because that’s my dream.

.

And I’ve also been thinking about starting an online course for interior design or photography this summer as I’ve always been in love with that subject and the creativity involved in it. I think courses like that are perfect for people who want to learn new things and study, but at their own pace and at home. It’s comfortable, but still perfect if you want to enhance your interests and learn more about them. Actually my mum is currently doing a course to be a vegan dietitian, which I think is super amazing. So there are two students at home right now.

.

To be honest, I have no idea what the future will bring or where it will take me. I just know what I’d really love to do. Maybe have my own magazine sometime or work for one the big kings in the business – Vogue I’m coming for you. Or maybe I’ll become one of the people who have the honor to write about festivals and interview the biggest stars. Who knows. All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited.

.

I know this post has pretty much been me rambling about stuff that’s floating around in my head but I thought maybe some of you are in the same position as me. I’ve always enjoyed discussing stuff like this with other people and hear their opinions, so please don’t hesitate to leave comments down below. And until then I really hope you enjoyed this post and are doing well. I wish you guys an amazing weekend. And, as always, thanks for reading. x

PS: We just passed 7000 clicks on this blog and are nearly at 1000 visitors and I couldn’t be any more thankful for that. I’m so damn happy. Thank you so much guys, you’re amazing.

A Monster Calls

Hola everyone.

As you can see from the title of this post, today we’re going back to our movie-fan-roots. I recently watched the movie “A Monster Calls” and I thought I’d share my experience with you.

.
To be honest, I didn’t really quite know what the movie was honestly about until I watched it. I mean, I was literally drawn to it still. I watched the trailer as soon as it was out and I was already in tears afters those two minutes. But I only had an idea of what it was about. So here’s a little description:

“A Monster Calls” is about 13 year old Conor who’s mum is having a hard time fighting against cancer. His dad left the family when Conor was little, his grandma doesn’t really seem to like him that much and the other guys are bullying him at school. So you could say that Conors life is pretty tough too. That changes when one night, seven minutes after midnight, the big yew tree next to their house suddenly comes alive and turns into a monster. The monster wants to tell Conor three stories. And after that, Conor has to tell him a fourth story, his truth, the nightmare he’s trying to hide. The one thing Conor never wanted to face. (Here’s the link to the trailer if you want to watch it – youtube.com)

.
Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? I went to watch the movie with my mum – of course – because honestly I wouldn’t have been able to watch it with anybody else. I would have just sat there, screaming inside “oh my goooood, I want to be with my mum, NOOOOW!!!”. But this way I had her right there sitting next to me and I could cuddle my face into her while the tears were rolling down my cheeks.

.
For me, the movie is a pure masterpiece. It completely draws you into the story from the first second on and it breaks your heart into a million pieces, but somehow the pain also heals you. I especially liked the artistic style of the movie, as all the stories the monster tells are drawn in water colours. It’s magnificent to watch.

.
In my opinion, what matters the most and what keeps you awake, thinking about the movie over and over again, is the ending.

If any of you haven’t seen the movie, beware, spoilers ahead.

As you can probably tell, the movie ends the exact way you think it will end. Conors mum just wasn’t strong enough to fight, the medicine didn’t work the way they had planned and everyone knows she won’t make it. After the monster tells the third story, it’s Conors turn. But he doesn’t want to tell it, to face the truth, his truth. But at one point he simply has to. And that’s when we get the reminder that we are all just human. Conor simply wants it all to end, his pain, the stress, just everything. Also if it means he has to let his mother go. I think at this part the monster tells Conor the exact thing he and also we, the audience, need to hear: “You were merely wishing for the end of pain… Your own pain. An end to how it isolated you. It is the most human wish of all.”

.

Conor understands whats going to happen and that it’s not his fault and although he doesn’t want to, he has to let his mum go. In the last few moments, Conor holds his mum and the monster is with him. Then we see his mum looking up and smiling at the monster, which means that she can see it too. Conors mum then passes away, seven minutes after midnight.

.
At the very end of the movie Conor comes back to his grandmas house, who has prepared a room for him. He goes in and finds a book on his desk, a book that seems to be his mums art book (she wanted to study art). Conor opens the book and finds paintings of the three stories the monster had told him. And right on the last page he finds a painting of his mum sitting on the shoulder of the monster.

.
Personally, I think this end leaves you enough space for interpretation. For me, his mum together with the monster and her seeing it before her death means that she also met it when she was younger and struggled with the death of her father. And now that Conor is struggeling too, the monster is visiting him. What a cute way to end such a dramatic, heartbreaking movie.

.
Apart from the beauty of the whole movie, my favorite and most emotional scene has to be when Conor and his mum have the “talk”. She knows she’s going to die and leave Conor alone. And he’s angry at her. But she understands him. And while tears are rolling down her cheeks she says: “It’s okay that you’re angry. I’m angry too, and if you need to break things, by god you break them. I wish I had 100 years, 100 years I could give to you.” That scene literally broke my heart into a billion pieces. And again I was so damn glad that mum was with me. I would’ve really needed her at that moment.

.
Overall, the movie is a complete masterpiece. And I would recommend it to anyone at every age. Just keep in mind that you won’t walk out of the cinema with a smile on your face. It really hurts, but somehow the pain feels good. The movie breaks you and then cuddles you into a warm blanket full of emotions. It’s overwhelming, but in a good way.

.
If any of you have seen or read it, what do you think? And how do you interpret the end? I’d be really happy to read from you. And until then I hope you liked this post and, as always, I hope you’re all doing well and thanks for reading. x

New Music Friday

Hola everyone.

Isn’t music amazing? And isn’t it even more amazing when all the bands you love bring out more and more new music and you just can’t get enough of it? God, I love when that happens. And when I have the honor to present you the best of the new songs. Let’s go.

.

Paramore

You’ve probably heard by now that Paramore are back. And for me, I think their comeback couldn’t be any better. I mean, I’ve loved their songs before but it seems like they just changed into a more like Indie type of sound and I’m living for it. Finally an Indie band with a female lead singer I can listen to. And want to listen to. And want to see them live. For me, their song “Hard Times” is literally perfect to start their new era with. Enjoy.

.

Nothing But Thieves

I’ve following this bands story since I found oat about them last year when I took a first look at the Reading festival lineup. And I immediately fell in love with them and their music, especially after seeing them live and hearing Conor’s amazing voice live and seeing how much they love what they’re doing (Conor teared up a little bit, so cute). And now that their new album is just waiting around the corner, they gifted us all with their new song “Amsterdam”, which I think is just mind-blowingly good and shows perfectly how good they are.

.

Kraftklub

This one is for all of my readers out there, who like to listen to German music. Kraftklub is like the perfect band to represent German rock/rap bands. Their songs are plain honest, they don’t really care about what others think about them and they do what they want. And it works. Because since I’ve had the chance to see them live at Sziget I wasn’t able to get them of my go-to song list. After a small hiatus they are now back, more honest than ever with two new songs. Down below is the link to the second one they released called “Fenster” (translates to “Window”), which is basically about all the people who hate the world, politics and just say that everything is bad, but don’t act to make it any better. They advise them to jump out of the window then. I know, pretty hard and honest. But that’s how they are. And actually, their new songs are quite amazing

.

Foster The People

I think this band is pretty special. They always seem some kind of hidden from the outside world, like a secret. But an amazing one. I’ve known their music for years now and am so incredibly happy that they are finally back with new music. And I’m so in love with it. My favorite of their new songs is “Pay The Man”, which is also their new single. I think it perfectly represents them as a band and their music.

.

So yeah, those are my top 3 of this weeks new songs. I could’ve have included Fall Out Boy, but as I dedicated a whole blog post to their new song (click me), I thought I’d leave you with those four other amazing bands. I hope you enjoy their music as much as I do. And please don’t hesitate to leave a comment, I’d really like to read your opinions, especially on Kraftklub. And until then, I hope you enjoyed this post and are all doing well. I wish you all an awesome weekend and thanks for reading. x

13 Reasons Why

Hola everyone.

So I guess you probably already know what I’ll talking about today. Yes, it happened. After such a long time of fighting against it, Netflix has finally defeated me too. But I just had to give in. Do any of you guys own a twitter profile? Literally everything people were and still are talking about is this tv series “Thirteen Reasons Why”. And me being the movie and tv series fan I am, I just had to fall for it sooner or later.

.

So I downloaded it. I now have this free trial for one month – I won’t have it any longer I think, Amazon Prime and Sky should be enough – and it’s just the perfect amount of time for me to try out as much as I can. And right now, I’m kind of binge-watching 13 Reasons Why, of course. And I have to say, I really do like it. I haven’t read the book and usually I’m not into such teenage drama stuff, but this show really keeps me in front of the screen, wanting more and more.

.

I’m currently at episode 9 and craving to find out what Clay really did – no spoilers please. So far the show never happened to let me down or bore me, which is a really good sign. There’s just one critic point – the whole story. I mean, I know that the book and the show is about Hannah, but I sometimes think she really did take herself a little bit too important (please don’t kill me in the comments). I know why the other students sometimes say that she just wants attention. But on the other hand I’m so damn sorry for her and think “oh wow, it’s really important to be nice to people”. And I guess that’s what the book/show wants to tell us – just be kind to people. You never know what really goes on in their life so it’s always better to bring them happiness and not even more pain.

.

But I guess I’m already pretty late on this trend. If any of you have already seen it or read the book – what did you think? Oh and is the book better than the show? I’m really curious. And I’m really excited to watch the last 4 episodes, I can’t wait. Oh and guys, I really hope you enjoyed this short insight on what I’m enjoying tv-wise right now. And I hope you’re all doing well. And, as always, thanks for reading. x

Ps: What besides this one would you recommend me watching? Riverdale? Black Mirror? Please hit me up with some ideas guys. Thaaanks. x

They are back

Hola everyone.

I guess some of you will already know what and especially who I’m talking about. My babes from Fall Out Boy have finally come back with new music after nearly two years and I can tell you, I’m living for it. It’s quite funny that I just wrote about them a week ago, not knowing something new, something so mind-blowing was just waiting around the corner.

.

Last Saturday Pete Wentz, one of the band members, started teasing about something, a new project named “Purple”. And of course everyone freaked out, especially me, and people started guessing what the project would be. And just yesterday, at around 6 pm it was finally time to reveal the truth.

.

They presented their new album called “Mania” that will come out on the 15th of September. And they gave us the first info of their upcoming tour which will start in October in the US. And of course and most importantly, they uploaded a new song.

.

“Young and Menace” is a song that totally blew me away when I first listened to it. I was shocked, but in a good way, of course. Mostly because it’s so different to anything they’ve ever produced before. The chorus is packed with electronic beats, full of energy. For me, it’s an extremely powerful song and it’s enormous, because if a song can be that it’s this song. I would actually say that it’s quite epic. And I’m 100% sure it’s going to sound absolutely crazy live.

.

I know a lot of people don’t like the song. Because it’s for sure not like their old songs, I wouldn’t call it punk rock. But a lot of people actually really like it, love it, just like me. I don’t think they changed to this more electronic sound to fit better into the current music trends, to be more successful. I think they did it because everyone changes and we can’t expect them to stick to their old sound forever. And I actually really love the fact that they try out new sounds. I think it’s amazing. And I’m living for the whole purple thing going on, it’s so aesthetic.

.

I’m already so looking forward to the european tour dates, I can’t wait to hear them. I hope they either visit my country or come to a city near me. I’d follow them to end of the world, no joke. And I can’t wait for their upcoming album. To be honest I’m quite sad that I’ll have to wait until September to finally get to hear it, but I’m hoping they’ll give us some little bits and pieces beforehand.

.

I’m just really happy that they are finally back. I mean, I just saw them last year, but hearing a completely new sound and getting to hear a new album is extremely exciting. If you give the song a listen, please tell me your opinions, I’m really curious. And until then I hope you enjoyed this post and, as always, thanks for reading. x

Folie à deux

Hola everyone.

First of all happy easter holidays everybody. I hope you’re all having amazing days off and could spent some wonderful time with your loved ones. I did, thankfully.

.

But this post won’t be dedicated to a bunny laying chocolate eggs in our gardens, but to a fantastic band I’ve already talked about pretty often. So I’m quite sure you’ll all know it by now. But to bring an end to all your questions, I’m talking about my beloved band Fall Out Boy.

.

For me, FOB is a band that will always have a place in my heart and some space on my sd-card, just because I love their music so much. The first time I got to know this band was actually in 2013, when I went to the cinema to watch “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters”. The movie starts of with some sort of turnier scene, while FOBs song “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” is playing in the background. The movie was amazing, but somehow it was the song that kept stuck in my head, I just couldn’t forget about it. And so I googled and googled and googled some more until I finally found it. And that’s where my love for FOB has its beginning. Since then the band and their music has been following me throughout the days. And I don’t mind it at all.

.

If I had to name my favorite song of them, I’d probably start with one song and then just name every single one of them. And that’s the special thing about the band, I just really love everything they do.

.

But in the past few weeks one album of theirs has stuck out of the crowd – Folie à deux. The title literally transaltes to “shared madness”, which is, at least for me, a quite funny aspect of the album. The LP itself is quite old, published in December 2008, but still as awesome as before. Maybe some of you have already given it a listen or love it just as much as me. Or maybe some of you don’t know the album or the band at all. In any cases, I can just highly recommend you listening to it if you’re a fan of indie/punk rock.

.

Personally, I have three total favorites of the album:

  • Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes
  • What a Catch, Donnie
  • 20 Dollar Nose Bleed

.

Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes actually had me having a little throwback the first time I heard the studio version, because that was the exact song I couldn’t recognize at the FOB gig at Reading festival. And I’ve been totally in love with it since then. I actually found the Reading live version on YouTube, so enjoy…

.

And let’s be honest, What a Catch, Donnie is a pure masterpiece. It’s a song where you can clearly hear the huge talent of the band and Patrick, the lead singer. His vocals are breathtaking, seriously.

.

And last but not least, 20 Dollar Nose Bleed. You all know how big of a fan I am of Panic! at the disco and just to my luck, Brendon is actually featured in this song. That makes it even more perfect than what it already is. And another fun fact, Brendon also has a small appearance in the video for What a Catch (tell me if you could spy him).

.

So yeah, those are my three favorites of the album, please enjoy. And please don’t hesitate to tell me your opinion on the album, I’m really curious. It’s quite sad, because I don’t really often meet someone who’s a fan of FOB too, so I’d be superhappy to be able to talk to some of you guys out there.

.

And as always, I hope you enjoyed this post and are all doing well and had an amazing weekend. And thanks for reading. x
